Curriculum Development with Jon Hutchinson - Date TBC

Picture
About this Event
Since the launch of Ofsted’s new education inspection framework, curriculum has become the zeitgeist of every school’s agenda. Intention, implementation and impact are the buzzwords of the year.

A renewed focus on curriculum is both a wonderful opportunity and a potential threat to any school. A huge raise in curriculum leaders’ workload is just one of the unintended consequences that has already arisen, as well as grabs for quick fixes and gimmicks.

Reach Academy has been developing a knowledge-rich, intelligently-sequenced curriculum for over three years. In 2018, the Department for Education awarded Reach Academy funding for three pilots, with the curriculum materials being used in a dozen schools.
In this session, Jon Hutchinson - who helped lead the project - will outline the research principles that underpin curriculum, share examples of the materials and give leaders a chance to see it in action through video.

Jon Hutchinson
Jon is an Assistant Headteacher at Reach Academy, Feltham, in charge of curriculum and assessment in the primary phases. He is also a Visiting Fellow at Ambition Institute, where he tutors on the Masters course in Expert Teaching. As well as experience as a class teacher in Key Stages One and Two, Jon has recently started to teach A Level Religious Studies. Over the last few years, Jon has been an expert adviser to Ofsted, the Standards and Testing Agency, and the DfE. @jon_hutchinson_
